Trekking Tween Lagoons (Lagunas Gemelas) - Tierra del Fuego - Argentina

The Lagunas Gemelas (Twin lagoons) are on the Garibaldi Pass northeast from Ushuaia city about 48 km driving along Route 3.

To find the trailhead, we leave our vehicle parked about 800 meters south of the Gabibaldi Pass viewpoint (from viewpoint to Ushuaia) on a curve in the road which has a parking space and where there is a small waterfall. Once there we must walk the route south (towards Ushuaia) 400 m where we will find the path that is visible and easily accessible.

We began to climb and the forest quickly becomes stunted because we started our ascent from 380 m high. We will moving through some small peat bogs, forest clearings small creeks.

To do this trekking in winter is important to wear snowshoes because the accumulation of snow can be significant.

After walking 1500 meters we arrive at Lagunas Gemelas (Twin Lagoons)  which are divided in the middle by a mound. In good weather it is a beautiful place to regain strength.

It is important to clarify that the Twin Lagoons are really two dams made by beavers. Throughout the area we can see signs of their depredation so be careful with the channels made by beavers to transport wood.

If we continue towards the bottom of the lagoons, rising a little more, we will find the viewpoint that lets us appreciate the Garibaldi Pass, Escondido Lake and Fagnano Lake. A vantage point to observe our environment.

The return will be by the same path by which we climbed, enjoying the view that gives us the Hambre valley which we have in front of us.

We hope you enjoy it.
